Science fiction said cigarettes would be self igniting. why are they self extinguishing?
So many things that were science fiction have become science fact, ie: small shiny discs that can play music and movies, little kindle type books, Dick Tracy two way wrist radios, robot companions, the list goes on and on. When these visionary authors concieved all of these things, how could they have been so wrong about cigarettes? Don’t tell me it’s because of the health risks either.
Because it’s the imagination, where anything can happen. If you look at the imagination of a science-fiction writer like Bradbury or Orson Scott Card (who is an epic writer, by the way) you get things that are ridiculous like lightsabers (star wars of course) or things that made some sense like two way wrist radios. If you look at the imagination of a scientist, you get things like the telephone, the automobile, and the airplane. The difference is that with sci fi authors, there’s no boundaries and everything is theoretical. Whereas with scientists, they work within the realm of logic and physics, where every theory is put to the test.
And by the way, self igniting cigerettes haven’t been invented because their companies don’t want to be SUED when it burns down half of southern california and beyond. Hence, self extinguishing cigerettes. Sorry my friend, but that one really does boil down to health risks
