metalheads….what do you think…..?
….of this list

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabber mouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&new sitemID=126481

it’s a list of the top 100 metal albums of all time. it was compiled by METAL HAMMER magazine in greece.

your thoughts? opinions?

i thought it was a good list. a lot of classic and legendary albums on here.

i did however have a few problems here and there….

1. ‘puppets’ should not be number one. i’d have that one at maybe 3 or 4. maiden and priest should be one and two.

2. too many metallica albums on there. yeah they’ve made some great albums but seriously, not all of them should be on the list.

3. ‘rust in peace’ is WAAAYYYY too low on this list. it deserves to be much higher.

4. nirvana, pink floyd, led zep, tool, deep purple, rainbow….are NOT metal bands. they shouldnt be on this list. PF….metal? really?

5. where the hell are testament? anthrax? primal fear?

6. few too many iron maiden albums as well. love maiden but anyone who thinks that ‘fear of the dark’ was one of the best metal albums ever is a bit on the slow side.

7. where is quiet riot?? they had the first metal album to EVER hit number one but they are glaringly omitted form this list. metal health is a classic.

8. no poison or ratt? wow. other 80’s metal titans are on there but these 2 were left off?

9. no king diamond or merciful fate?? glaring omissions.

overall i’d say it was a really good list, despite it’s flaws. i like that they mixed all the genres (yet they left off nu metal for some reason) like 80’s, thrash, prog, death, power, etc and came up with a great list of music.
also happy to see that bands like helloween, savatage, kreator, accept, etc.. have finally made on to one of these lists. if this had been a list made in america, none of these bands would have been on it. (most likely)
they also forgot overkill
star if you’re a metalhead. \ m / OoO \m/
THANKS FOR ALL THE ANSWERS, GUYS! YOU’RE AWESOME. KEEP EM COMING!
hey ‘eddie’….thanks for answering bro but just so you know…
death, exodus, sepultura, kreator, pantera, slayer and opeth are ALL featured on that list.

also ‘piece of mind’, ‘powerslave’ and ‘ number of the beast’ (it’s #2 for chrissakes) are all listed here also.
and job for a cowboy and suicide silence are bands that are way too new to be featured on this list.

My problems with this list, other than the fact that I don’t believe ‘bests’ actually exist…

1. There should be absolutely no mention of Nu-Metal. Not only is the genre filled with enough non-Metal influences to discredit it’s status as Metal, it’s also too new of a genre to have a large influence on Metal (which, from the other bands on that list, is what they use to pick contenders for the list)

2. I get that certain bands are seen as very influential, which may warrant various of the band’s songs being placed on the list. However, the amount of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath on the list is just too much. It overshadows the under recognized bands in that era.

3. Unbalanced genres. Way too much Traditional Heavy Metal, way too little Doom and Goth. Way too much Thrash, not enough Folk and Prog.

lists like that are subjective and the writers are biased. they are also written to influence the musically ignorant and to tell people what their favorite bands/albums/songs/etc should be. and why is guns n roses on there?

It’s a pretty good list, but I agree why the hell are some of those bands in there.
And also way too much Metallica. Some bands deserve to be up higher :P

I like this list, but there’s too much Metallica, I think some of those albums should be ranked higher than others.

Too much Metallica.

Edit: Why is SOAD on there? =|
