Are many domestic pets capable of conscious thought?
Are their actions a direct result of a thought process, or merely a response from ‘hardwired’ instincts?
Undoubtedly, dogs dream, and love companionship – yet they are pack animals, is companionship in their nature? Just a few questions to provoke some more thought
I would say many are..
if your dog comes to tell you it needs out, or your cat lets you know its food bowl is empty that is conscious thought, it learned that it has to get you to fulfill your job.
my donkey demonstrated conscious thought in this story where she saved another pets life

I think they’re of conscious thought because we can teach them to do tricks and stuff.
Dog’s don’t instinctually sit when you say "sit". it is a learnt behaviour that requires some level of cognitive processing even if it is only through association to another stimulus (like giving a dog food after it sits)

dogs can dream and feel companionship, they also can feel excited.
