Why are christians so obsessed with converting everyone?

November 19th 2009 in Uncategorized

I just really don’t understand why they have this obsession to make everyone christian. I know we atheists try to spread the good news to everyone, but that is our direction from Richard Dawkins. It is the christians that are always screaming to be left alone and criticizing atheists for what they do, now they are doing the same thing. In many ways christianity has become sort of a church by itself, with their pastors and messiahs. Their bus and billboard campaigns are another good example of this. They have their right to free speech, and anyone converted by it were probably never really atheists in the first place, but I find it rather hypocritical.
This question was spawned from here…. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index; _ylt=AjlUPUBcDFqCIB.D7Q_n8HLsy6IX;_ylv=3 ?qid=20090512104737AAUGgSW&show=7#pr ofile-info-PkBo90Xraa

My answer on the other question:

"When atheists start going door to door and pestering you during lunch, when you can’t even go to the supermarket to buy groceries because some atheist hawker is out there screeching away on a bullhorn for converts, when atheists are out there at busy intercections distracting traffic with their nonsense and protesting things like abortion in a town where there aren’t even abortion clinics, THEN you get to complain about all the proselytizing that atheists do.

"Until then, all Dawkins did was write ONE book on religion. All Hitchens did was write ONE book on religion and edit ONE other book on atheism. You guys have had 2000 years to pester and malign not only atheists, but those of us who believe differently than you."

How is proclaiming the truth of Christ a bad thing?
Don’t you want to go to heaven?

That’s why I do what I do every day here.

If I kept my mouth shut then that would be worse. I’m doing you a favor by telling you this.

We are not trying to convert everybody. Some people cannot be converted because they have commited the Unforgivable sin(Matthew 12:31)

Because we don’t want you to spend your afterlife in hell.

I can only convert grams and ounces and miles and meters and stuff like that.
I cannot convert people they choose to do that themselves. My faith doesn’t do magic wands.

Well, we Christians screw up a lot. But some of us do love you guys who don’t believe, and we want you to be saved from Hades.

Christians attempt to convert for the simple reason that delusion loves company.

Because we give a damn about our fellow man.

Yes, for being so "high-up" as a lot of christians think they are, they sure are judgemental. I am a 17 year old atheist and its pretty ridiculous that I am scared to tell my mother this. She always says "as for me and my house we will worship the lord" and I have a feeling that she will kick me out if I told her about my beliefs, or lack thereof. She is obsessed with the fact that everyone she knows MUST BE CHRISTIAN or else she can’t hang out with them. I don’t know what her problem is, but it sure is annoying. If she wants to worship a god then thats fine, because thats her choice, but she shouldn’t force it on me or anyone else.

It’s natural for people to share something they think is great.

How many times have you, or has someone told you about a movie that HAS to be seen?

They shudnt try to force anyone into any religion.
but if they are trying to convert someone – make it the right religion..islam.
