Is it weird that I'm not obsessed with marriage?
I’m sorry if I’m mistaken and anyone now sees this twice, but I tried posting this a bit ago and I didn’t see it appear on the page (which seems to happen to me a lot, so I figured I’d re-post). Thank you.

Many of my friends are obsessed with having boyfriends and with getting married (we’re teenagers). They worry that it (marriage) won’t happen for them and they hope for specific guys to ask them out. I always listen, and offer advice when they ask for it, but I’m not concerned about dating or anything. I never thought anything of this until it seemed to come up all the time.

These past few years I’ve felt like all of the things I’ve repressed and all of the more current things that upset me have really caught up with me and I think it’s when I really turned to my eating disorder and self-injury that I just stopped even noticing guys beyond them being my friends. Everyone thinks I’m so ecstatically happy all the time (thankfully), so I suppose being so different on the inside from the outside messed with my mind a bit as well. It’s been years since I began engaging in those things, but I still don’t care about dating. Whenever I get asked out I feel ill (being complimented and stuff like that by anyone is so awkward, and it’s all the worse when done by a guy who just wants you to be his girlfriend). Also, I guess I look around at my family and I see so many failed marriages (but between people who are still married), and I hear my mom talking about how badly she wanted kids and how worried she was that she’d be too old (they did get married quite a bit older) and it just sounds like desperation and not love.

I feel like something’s wrong with me. It’s just that if I never get married I won’t care, because unless I meet someone I truly love then what would be the point (what I mean is, why get married out of desperation and spend a lifetime resenting your husband)?

I’m very optimistic about the love lives of others, by the way, so this isn’t supposed to sound cynical. I just wonder, is it weird to have no inclination to date (I’m not scared of winding-up like my family, I just genuinely haven’t met someone who asks me out and doesn’t make me feel like I’m lower than scum and super guilty while doing so- this is an issue with myself and NOT the guys, but I figure one day I’ll either meet someone I say yes to or I’ll never say yes and live my life out just fine as well)?

Thank you for your time.

-A ferocious creature that was half man – half bull?

Asterion, the Minotaur. His mother was Pasiphae, the queen of Crete, his father was the holy bull that had been sent by Poseidon as a sacrifice.
See, Minos – the king – was supposed to have sacrificed it to Poseidon (after claiming none of his own cattle was good enough) but he found the bull so fine, he sacrificed another one instead. Poseidon was furious, and he sent the bull into a rage and drove Pasiphae insane, so she fell in love with the beast and wanted to mate with it. So she had Daedalus, the engineer, build a wooden cow she could get inside and lure the bull.
Well… it worked… and she became pregnant… and she gave birth to Asterion.
Minos had him locked up inside the Labyrinth.
Traditionally, the Minotaur (=`Bull of Minos?) is endowed with the body of a man, but the head of a bull.

-The youngest + most powerful of Uranus & Gaea’s Titan Children?

Chronos, who ended up overthrowing his father, just as his son Zeus would eventually overthrow him.

- The god known for his winged sandels & helmet?

Hermes, the messenger of the gods, as well as being the god of merchants, travellers and thieves, and particularly of thieving travelling merchants.
He also guided the souls of the dead to the underworld.

- The hero who defeated the Minotuar?

That was Theseus of Athens. He was aided in his endeavour by princess Ariadne, the Minotaur?s half-sister, who gave him a sword and a long, long length of string, so he could trace his steps back out of the Labyrinth.

- Hero who killed Medusa?

Perseus, a demi-god; the son of Zeus and a mortal princess. Slaying the Gorgon Medusa was a quest he had to fulfill to claim his birth-right.
Medusa was one of the children of Keto and Phorkys, primordial sea-monsters. She was one of triplets; her monstrous sisters Stheno and Euryale were identical twins, but she did not look like them. She was also not immortal like they were.
Medusa had actually been an attractive woman, but the goddess Athena, in a fit of jealousy, had cast a curse on her, turning he hair into snakes, and making it so that anyone who looked her in the eye would turn to stone.
Perseus first got the counsel of the Graiai, three women who had been born as old ladies, sisters of the Gorgons, who shared only one eye and only one tooth between them. They gave him a sword and a polished shield, which he used as a mirror to avoid looking at Medusa directly.

- Location of the palace of the gods & goddesses?

Mount Olympus.

- Where Gaea sprang from (A dark, shapeless mass)?

Chaos.

- Goddess of agriculture?

Demeter.

- One eyed monster?

Cyclops. The original Cyclopes were Brontes, Steropes and Arges, triplets born from Gaia and Ouranos.
The Odyssey tells of a race of Cyclopes, the most famous of whom was the tragic brute, Polyphemus.

- God of fire & blacksmiths?

Hephaestos, one of only two children of Hera and Zeus; when he was born, he was so ugly Hera threw him off Olympus, which is why he limps. But he is the most brilliant of craftsmen, and he has his smithy under the volcano Etna.

- Nine headed serpent?

The Hydra of Lerna, one of the monstrous offspring of Typhon and Echidna. Its venom was incredibly deadly, and for every head that was cut off, it would sprout two new ones; also, its ninth head was immortal. The hero Heracles had a hard time with the beast, but his cousin Iolaus helped him out by searing the wounded necks shut before new heads could grow, so eventually only the immortal head was left. Heracles buried that under a rockslide.

- Hero who battled Polyphemus?

Strictly speaking, nobody BATTLED Polyphemus. But Odysseus tricked the cyclops: first, he gave the giant a false name (Odeis; that?s Greek for `Nobody?), then he offered him strong wine (this wine was supposed to be watered down for drinking; also, Polyphemus was not used to alcohol); finally, when the giant cannibal slept, he and his men cut a big beam into a spike and hardened the tip in the fire; and they stabbed out his eye.
They did not kill him because then they would have been trapped in the cave, because they were unable to move the huge rock Polyphemus used for a door. Now, he let out his herd of sheep to feed in the morning, and Odysseus and his men escaped by hanging on to the underside of the big sheep.

- Goddess who stayed near the hearth?

Hestia, one of Zeus? siblings. She was the goddess of domestic fire. Of all the Greek gods, she might be the most forgotten. I imagine she was a lot more important in a time when you had to watch the fire so it would not go out.
Her Roman counterpart was Vesta, and her priestesses, the Vestal virgins, would be severely punished if they allowed the ritual fire to die.

- Mother Earth?

Gaia or Ge. The first living thing in the universe, in the Greek cosmology.

- Goddess of marriage?

Hera. Which is why she was particularly furious when her husband Zeus wa

How to taking portrait pictures at night clubs and what equipment to use?
I want to take pictures of people in difficult light conditions in night clubs. I am new to photography and don’t really know what equipment I should use and how the settings should be.

First thing would be the lens. I picked up from the forum that I have to use a fast lens. Something like 50mm f/1.8. Is that correct?

The camera. Is the ISO the most important thing I have to pay attention to when I buy a camera? What min. would you say should the camera have? ISO1600? ISO3200?
Also, I’m not sure if the shutter time is important.

The last point is the flash. I think I need a good flash but I read some comments that due to fast lenses they use no flash…but if I use a flash its even better isn’t it?

I hope I didn’t mix everything up but I really just started and I want to this kind of professional for a web site.

Your help would be HIGHLY appreciated!!!
I think I didn’t explained right what I want to do! I’m sorry. I want to take pictures of people in night clubs.
Where should I pay attention to besides using a good flash?

if you want professional invest your money in a professional photographer, they know the answers and have the gear,

personally the idea of high iso’s, F1.8 shooting portraits in a night club sound like a night mare, to me

flash and stands and screens is the gear i would use, depends on the photographer and their abilities
???? ?????????? | Feb 04, 2010

I would take some strobes, stands, remote triggers, umbrellas, snoots, a bunch of gels, a ring flash, probably a 16-35mm f/2.8, a 50mm f/1.4, and a 70-200mm f/2.8. I would probably not shoot available light portraits in a night club, at least if someone was paying for the photos. High ISO speeds don’t excite me too much. I like to shoot at 100, and rarely go above 400 if I can help it. If you are using a flash, look at the sync speed on the cameras you are looking to buy, a faster sync speed will give you a little more flexibility.

Good luck!

Rabbit nesting, lossing hair, and sprayed red liquid?
I have a rabbit that is around 6 years old and am pretty sure she is a female. I noticed that she had sprayed on the floor and cabinet. it was dark bron almost red. Not sure if it is blood or just urine. She has also started to make a nest out of hay and her hair. She doesn’t have any bald spots but there is a lot of hair. Any ideas or thoughts?

she’s most likely pregnant. those are all really telltale signs. if she gets grouchy that’s another sign. watch her closely. a rabbit will give birth after about 28 days.
MLIA<3 | Feb 05, 2010

Whether it’s blood or pink/brown urine, that’s a sign she needs to see a vet. It could be a bladder infection or even uterine cancer (if blood is coming from her vulva – rabbits don’t bleed when they are in heat like dogs do). There is no fluid that should be coming from her that is the color you describe.
Qatie | Feb 05, 2010

i dont know about the blood/urine thing but pulling her hair out means that shes getting ready to have babies. But!,,, that doesnt necessarily mean shes prego. Rabbits can pretend to be prego. They’ll pull their hair out and start lactating but they arent actually pregnant.

Boys and Girls names?
I’m lowering down my lists, and finding names that my fiance actually likes!! He’s Mexican, and I’m white, and we can’t always agree on the same types of names!!

Girls:
Avayah Faith
Kaidence Maria
Gabriella Lynn
Adela Grace
Alexa Grace
Ariana Faith

Boys:
Anthony Juan
Bryson Antonio
Jacoby Antonio
Blake Antonio
Jackson Juan
Christian Alex

any other ideas would be very helpful!! thanks

My fiance and I had the same exact issue. He is Mexican and I’m white. At first, every name I suggested, he said was "too white". Finally, we came to a compromise. I got to choose the first name and he chose the middle name. The middle name was his name, though…so I don’t know how much thought has to be put into it…lol. My son’s name went from Gavin Riley to Gavin Anthony to the final Gavin Xavier…lol.

Some of the girl names that we both agreed on were:
Addison Bailey
Addison Phoenix
Bailey Pheonix
Alexandria
Alexia

Boy names:
Lucas
Riley
Brice Anthony

Why don’t you try to come to a compromise like we did? Also…since you are still getting ideas fo both sexes, I’m guessing you still have a little while to go. My fiance and I didn’t decide on a name until a week before my son was born…lol. Something will come to you.

Girls:
Avayah Faith – Dislike Avayah. Love Faith.

Kaidence Maria – I really hate this spelling of Cadence. "Cadence" is an actual word and should be spelled properly, but even then, Cadence is very popular right now. Maria is very beautiful.

Gabriella Lynn – I love Gabriella, and it really pays tribute to the child’s Mexican heritage. Lynn is okay, and I can see how a short and simple middle name pairs well with such an elegant and complex first name. Lovely choice.

Adela Grace – I like this, but Adela sounds a little strange. I prefer Adele. Grace is beautiful, but perhaps overused.

Alexa Grace – Nice enough, but a bit dull.

Ariana Faith – Now THIS is good stuff! Ariana (pronounced air-ee-AHN-uh) is little used and quite lovely. I am glad to see it is also spelled properly. Faith is beautiful and they sound like music together.

Boys:
Anthony Juan: This is nice enough, and, once again, it’s nice to see the child’s Mexican heritage incorporated into his name.

Bryson Antonio: Dislike Bryson. It seems so made up and contrived. Antonio is wonderful.

Jacoby Antonio: Jacoby is a guilty pleasure of mine, but it seems made up and childish. It also sounds strange with Antonio.

Blake Antonio: I like Blake. It’s a nice solid first name for such a fluid middle name.

Jackson Juan: Blah.. Jackson is so overused now.

Christian Alex: I like Christian. Alex is a nickname for Alexander, though. Christian Alexander is nice.

You have some nice choices. I love Gabriella Lynn and Ariana Faith. Gabriella Faith would also be lovely. For boys, I like Anthony Juan and Blake Antonio. I also think Christian Alexander would be wonderful.

While I know it is ultimately you and the father’s decision, I think it is a nice idea to incorporate both of its parents’ heritage into its name. That can help give him/her a sense of pride and identity.

Good luck.

Can I substitute bacon grease for lard?
I am making an old-fashioned cornbread recipe for Thanksgiving. It calls for a 1/4 cup of lard, which I cannot find anywhere. If I used bacon grease, would it be the same?

Holy Moly yes. Back in the old days of the pioneers that is exactly what they would have done. I like to use bacon grease to make cornbread. When camping we always did.Take the bacon out of the skillet, leave the grease. Pour in batter and place skillet in the coals of the campfire.

You could use it just make sure you add a litle extra sugar to balance out the salty flavor from the bacon grease

Oh that sounds GOOD! This is pretty much lard with a huge flavor component.

Not for sweet pastry stuff, like pie crust. But for browning meat it’s fine. Might be too strong a taste for cornbread – have you any butter ( not margarine ) handy? That could work.
Good luck.

No, it will NOT be the same. You can find lard near the butter in any good supermarket. If you don’t see it, ask someone.

Yes, you can use bacon grease in cornbread recipes…Better yet, add some ground, cooked bacon bits while at it, add a dash of sage, (ground works well if you don’t have fresh) and a dash of pepper, for a more savory instead of sweet cornbread. This is particularily good w/ fowl.

I’m guessing that would be perfect for the cornbread recipe! My grandmother used to use left over bacon grease for lots of things. It was especially great for frying eggs. But back to your question… I’d definitely use it for that, it’s going to taste AMAZING!

It certainly would work, but be aware your cornbread will have a distinctive bacony flavor – I’ve done that and it’s actually quite tasty. Just don’t forget it’s pork fat – you know too much of that isn’t good for ya. And add a pinch of ground sage and another of garlic and a quarter teaspoon of onion powder.

Lard is rendered fat; that’s what bacon grease is, just less refined. Go for it! It’ll add taste.
