Help with a Plot for my Science Fiction Dystopian Story?
Well for my English assignment we have to do a creative piece on Science Fiction. OK, my story is set in a modern city of sky scrapers, all the buildings are white, glass and steel. People don’t walk on the side street as everyone travels by car which are mainly auto piloted, but there is no pollution. There is a totalitarian government, so all the city has CCTV cameras, phone calls are recorded and internet services are restricted, ya da ya da ya da, so there is virtually no crime. The main character I decided is a female office worker who works in the government building who feels that the government has turned city life into mindless actions like being machines and she hasn’t breathed in fresh air for months because people don’t normally travel by foot, only by car which is auto piloted to a location or take the subway. She has a husband as well. I’ve decided she will be kidnapped by an underground rebel (who is a girl as well) after the rebel is chased into the subway by a gun squad whilst the main character was waiting to go home at 3am. And that’s all I’ve got.
I don’t know what she can do in my short story because I’ve got writers block…
Well if she is your main character, have her fight against the established order ( the government) This story of yours sounds more akin to a George Orwell novel like 1984.

Perhaps you can have the main character being drawn to her kidnapper’s cause after watching her and then decide to join her and have the story end with their talk of staging a major uprising or something
