Tigerland (2000)

IMDB rating: 7.20

Plot: In September 1971, a platoon of recruits arrives in Ft. Polk, LA, for infantry training before leaving for war. The final week takes place in Tigerland, a swamp similar to Vietnam. Jim Paxton has enlisted; he wants to experience everything and write books later. He befriends Roland Bozz, a cool Texan with a gift for getting into trouble and for helping misfits get discharges. At least one sociopath in the platoon hates Bozz, even as the sergeants grudgingly recognize his leadership abilities. As the platoon heads into its week in Tigerland, Paxton’s body gives out, Bozz makes plans to go AWOL, and the sociopath gets hold of live ammo. Is the Louisiana swamp more dangerous than the DMZ?

I was just wondering this just before?
I was thinking about ex players that go on to coach their own club, especially with the rumours flying around about Wayne Campbell replacing Wallace should he get the arse at Toothless Tigerland. One who sprang to mind and for him it didn’t end well, was Peter Schwab with the Hawks. My mind draws a blank at any others, other than Woosha and the Eagles. Have you any other examples and do you think its a wise move for clubs to be looking to past greats to coach their teams?

Paul Roos at Sydney, Brett Ratten at Carlton.

As Smash said, being a past great doesn’t really matter in my opinion, if the club thinks they have the potential to be a good coach, then great. But of course, if a well known coach isn’t signed to any club, you’d surely talk to them first.

Voss at Brisbane, Walls at Carlton, Parkin at Hawks.
I don’t really think it’s relevant if they were a past great, unless they’re like Voss, straight out of the game to coach most your former teammates, I think Voss should have gone to the Eagles and waited a bit. But he’s doing a great job. :)
