How difficult is transferring to University of Maryalnd (College Park) from UMBC?
I’m a freshman planning on transferring from UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), to University of Maryland, College Park, and I was wondering if it was easier to get in than it was as a freshman. I didn’t get in as a freshman, and Maryland, I feel, has always been the school for me. I have a decent GPA (around a 2.9-3.1), and I’m taking some tough classes, notably a senior level Euro History class.
My mother went to Maryland, got her masters, and later on got her PhD. My father went to the medical school at Maryland, and then later taught at the medical school and worked at the University Hospital. My brother also went to Maryland (you can understand why I was upset when I didn’t get in senior year of highschool haha).
In any case, I figured since I’m already in the university of Maryland system, it should be easy going from UMBC to Maryland. Also having a legacy there should help to, right?
What do you think?
It should be easier to get in anywhere as a transfer student, and considering that you’re already in the state system and have family connections, you probably stand a chance of being accepted, despite a previous rejection. However, a 2.9-3.1 GPA seems a little low. You should work to pick it up this spring to around a 3.5, which I believe would probably guarantee admission.

I’m sure that all the factors you listed above will help.
But at the end of the day, a 3.0 GPA isn’t going to cut it.
