What version of Lawrence of Arabia is the best?
There are quite a few different versions of this movie out there, and I was wondering which one is the best version especially in terms of pacing. I tried to watch the 4 hour version (the 2 disc Superbit DVD) and I can never get through it.
I’m talking about the David Lean movie (not the TV series or whatever) there are different cuts of that film, and I was wondering which one is the best.

The Superbit version is actually (I think) the shortest version you can buy at 216 minutes. I usually watch the version they show on TCM, it’s the 222 min version. I like most bits, but it is overly chatty and for some reason Alec Guiness’ character gets on my nerves so I can see why you would have trouble finishing it. Maybe you should try watching one half and then going back and watching the second half the next day. Or you could just skip it altogether and watch a film bio of Lawrence since the film isn’t terribly accurate anyway (But watch the desert scenes anyway for the great cinematography)

Most of society is going to say the David Lean 4 hour version is the only version you should see. I know of other versions existence, but I’ve heard nothing about them that would make me believe they’re anything good or special.

Sort of like how the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies might be in comparison to the animated Lord of the Rings movie.

If you can’t sit through the long one, then the short one is probably better for you but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the better version.

I have only seen the 1962 version with Peter O’Toole
in the title role. If you having trouble getting through
a newer one then by all means watch this version.

It is still thought to be one of the best movies ever
made.
