Okay, so everyone in my class is going to laugh when i read this out in my presentation!?

My poet, William Wordsworth, was born in Cockermouth! No joke. Everyones going to laugh when i read that out. Arghh..

Yeah, they will probably laugh but that is a good thing…takes the anxiety out of doing a presentation to have some laughter. Might want to save that bit until the end….leave ‘em laughing!!

so you should start with it , could brake the ice and lessen the tension thats for sure.

Yes You are right! They will scream with laughter and roll around on the floor! You may be suspended for causing a riot in the classroom! lol

Look, just pronounce it as Cookmouth or even Coke-r-mouth (you know, like Coke), and leave it at that. If your teacher wants to say it over, let the class laugh at the teach, not you.
Okay?

Oh well, poor family names…actually this will sound funny in the English language and it wouldn’t in other languages…so language can be really interesting..what can be beautiful to another tongue can mean " mean" in another langugae…so this is all a matter of translation..meanwhile…what is the continuation???
Sweetfootey-toes | Nov 19, 2007

Hi,
Dont worry, it is a fact of history, you are just stating it. If people laugh, you keep a smile and then continue with your presentation. You can also tell ".. was born in Cockermouth, Cumbria in England", thereby reducing the reaction time for people to laugh at you. Everything will be fine and you will do the presentation very well.
All the best..

LOL Do you have to say that part of it? I mean, why not just say he was born in England, or wherever Cockermouth is? HAHAHAHA!!

It’s not that funny.

Pronounce it "COKE-er MOTH" it may not be the right way to say it, but it’s a LOT less silly.
fred_rogers | Nov 19, 2007
