Can slipstreaming have the same or siminlar effect when driving NEXT to a semi?

Well because a moving liquid has less pressure so if you are riding next to the truck you would be pulled in towards it. So I thought it would be a similar effect as drafting.

It can, it provides a windbreak at highway speeds, the oncoming air and wind is deflected to a large degree by the forward truck. There is a sweet spot about 15 or 20 feet behind the truck that has very little turbulence. However the safety factor at highway speeds make this a very dangerous place to be, you cannot see the road ahead of the tractor , any sudden braking or steering by the truck driver puts you in danger. 18 wheelers have 18 tires to fling stones and road debris at your car and windshield, a tire blow out by the rig would really mess up your car. Lastly, most states have motor veh. laws which prohibit following too close, so keep your distance , regardless of how tempting it may be….good luck

It can, it has a very profound effect on air currents between a large vehicle and acts as a shield. As the smaller vehicle clears the larger one there is a quick and drastic change in forces applied to the smaller vehicle. It varies depending on wind speed and wind direction of the air currents. Another reason to clear the larger vehicle is tire blowouts, they can be very dangerous when the "road gator" flies off the carcass at 70 miles per hour. I have a rule, stay as far away from a semi as possible, upon passing, do it like you mean business, no loafing around beside one of those beast, it is just to dangerous. Good luck.

Does anyone agree with me on dial-up?
Hello everyone, and I’m happy to have a cable connection since 2006. Three years before that time, I used to have the most dreaded thing ever before high-speed internet became pervasive: dial-up.

First of all, dial-up was a PITA (pain in the apples, if you ask me) because of its snail-like speed. (I had AOL, which had a lot of shutdowns due to errors and dropped lines!) Secondly, I used to not watch any video site such as YouTube (which I stumbled upon months before switching to cable), where the videos take at least half an hour for even the shortest durations. Last but not least, I used to be in meltdown mode (You heard me – I’m autistic and this conflict used to be one of a few circumstances when I don’t transition as easily.) when I was unable to access the Internet on that type of connection because either someone had a call waiting, someone was on the phone, someone faxed some company, or the connection was busy. For the latter reason, dial-up uses a traditional phone line, which I have to share when someone makes a call.

Does anyone of you agree with me on how S-L-O-W dial-up is? Does anyone here still use it and feel the same impatient, irked feelings? If you have switched to a higher-speed phone line-free Internet connection, tell me your experiences of your previous service and how satisfied you were when you first switched!

Yes, dial up is no fun. I finally was able to make the transition to broad band about 8 months ago. I live in a rural area and most broad band is not available. I was able to get an aircard to work though.

since then our family internet use has probably increased ten fold. some of that is useful and has to do with home work and news gathering, but mostly it is just recreation like this.

I completely agree. I had dial up for a few years then switched to high speed DSL. I could be happier, because the company I have is very unreliable, and even was going slower than dial up last night, but it’s still better. For one, since I have a wireless router I can use my laptop wherever I want in my house. Secondly, I can use my phone while I’m surfing the web. It’s great. I’d never switch back….

People say i need help. Do I?
I talk, sing, hum, or hurt myself when I don’t realize it. I also feel like there is a little girl in my room. I even clear a space for her sometimes on my bed, or even sleep on the floor so she can sleep in the bed. I usually ask her questions and tell her things. I even know what she looks like.

I talk to inanimate objects. I sit in the dark more than I sit in the light. I do things even though I know they will hurt. I wake up and think my dreams were real. I laugh for no reason. I have tried to kill myself more than once. And, I hate being around people.

I’ve told my parents about it, (not the little girl though) and they think I need therapy. I always refuse but, my friends think I maybe should go try. My parents and sibling also think I might have Schizophrenia,Paranoia, or ADHD.

I have bad mood swings and almost always want to be alone. I hate big places and LOVE tiny places such as boxes. I almost never sleep and hate it when I do. I sometimes cry for no reason and sometimes get frustrated out of nowhere, and if it’s not out of nowhere I get frustrated EASILY. I am getting frustrated writing this, now.

Should I try therapy?

It can’t hurt. You’re symptoms are definitely not normal. If not for your own mental benefit, you should try it so that your friends and family can stop worrying about you. A lot of people are nervous about therapy. They think it means that there’s something wrong with them, but a lot of times, a therapist is like a diary. They can solve a lot of your problems. My friend recently lost her mother to cancer and her father is in the hospital. She goes to a grief therapist and she says she doesn’t know if she’d even be here if it weren’t for her.

my mom's lawyer more into my mom's ex rights then her's!!!!?
my mom married a real loser.he gets her preg with 2 kids..kept walking in and out of there lives so he could go off and smoke his weed and drink with friends..then comes crawling back for her crying i need u…anyways..so they ended up marrying she thought that would help get him to stop leaving..a week and a half later he walks out for 2 months..she was preg with his 2nd child at this timeing..months go by and he’s in and out my sis was born she had enough and kicked him to the curb it’s been a year..thank god go mom…

her lawyer has left there seperation papers and custody and visitation right papers go for a year now he won’t push him to sign and is all about his rights well he has to be able to see his kids my mom’s agreed to it as long as she dosen’t have to supervise..but lawyer won’t do anything to help her..and her ex’s is willing to sign anything when not mad at her..my whole family has wittnessed this guy and there is so many reasons y he shouldn’t be in the kids life..but nobody will help my mom..is it normal for lawyers to be more into the other persons rights and not want to help there clients situation…(just to let u know legal aid is helping my mom pay for this lawyer and they won’t let her switch) is there any legal addvice or anything that could help my mom get this guy out of their lifes…or what can we do about this lawyer?

Lawyers now have to be careful how they handle family law. In some states, their mandate is to keep the family together even though they are not together.. meaning each parent has rights and those rights have to be respected. I dont know what your state laws are. There are alienation laws that come into effect if either parent is causing problems with the relationship between th parent and the kids… a lawyer can actually be brought to task by the courts if its felt the lawyer is interfering in any way with the relationship between the kids and a parent. ie. if your moms lawyer starts picking at her ex about being around the kids and asks that he not be around the kids, his reasons have to be proven and it cant look like he is just judging out of the air. It costs money to prove these things ie. hire a private investigator to get pictures of ex drunk in public, carrying on etc. But your mom has a legal aid lawyer so there is no money for these sorts of things so he is stuck using what he has to use… letter of the law. This douche bag has right unfortunately. Those are his kids and the courts will recognize that fact unless it can be proven in court he is unfit. Its very hard to prove this.

I am sure your moms lawyer is doing what he can with what he is getting paid. Its standard practice to wait a year before going before the courts to dissolve the marriage…. the custody and visitation papers should be dealt with right away though, not sure what is up with that.

I am sorry you and your mom and other family members are going through this… it must be awful. Keep your chin up and be there for your mom and your younger siblings…. none of you kids asked for this mess….. so stick together and love your mom… it will all work out in the end… it usually does.

Why is my cat so grouchy all the time?help?its been goin on for years now!?

The Gossip Girl books don’t interest me (even though I love the show. Same goes for the It Girl Books).
I’ve already read the Twilight books a couple years ago, so I’m way over those.
Nothing that has to do with a rendition of vampires & werewolves.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is really good. In fact i just bought the series in hardcover and it arived today, they take me about a day to read one (8 hours really) but are very interesting. Its about this dad (Rick Riordan) who tells his son about the greek gods, his son has ADHD and Dyslexia. Then Rick made a story about a boy just like him. ADHD makes him feel like time flys by very slowly which helps him in battle for evading attacks. In the first book he finds out hes a demigod (half god, half human) and Zeus (lord of the sky) has blamed him for stealing his lightning bolt and if it is not returned by the Summer Solstice there will be a war between the gods. GREAT SERIES!!!
