Deep Vein (blood clot) at home treatment?
I was in the hospital for 6 days
I have DVT basically a blood clot in my thigh
they have me on blood thinners and pain killers

i am now back at home and im not sure what im to do

do i walk on it as much as i can handle ( there is lots of pain) but they gave me a wheelchair to take home also
do i keep it elevated
do i put a cold pack or heating pad on it
do i massage it or stretch it

any advice would be amazing

:)
also, how long should the pain be?
like walking on it quite hurts but i know its good so the blood can circulate
my doctor didnt give me lots of advice

Short walks to keep the circulation flowing helps, but sorry I’m not sure of much else.

How about following your doctor’s advice?

I Would Say Do All Of it And Then Soak in a Hot-Warm Bath With Epson Salt And If It Still Hurts Call Your Doctor And See What He/She Say

I would say to call your doctor and get advice.

Don’t massage it. That is the worst thing you can do. More than likely you are stable (otherwise they wouldn’t have sent you home) but if your condition changed then massaging it could be very bad.

Walk a little every few hours at least. And yes when you are sitting you should elevate it.

I know it hurts. It is pretty common for it to do so for a while.

I had a DVT in my thigh 3 years ago. Take care of yourself. And if you start to have shortness of breathe then go to the ER at once. But more than likely you will be just fine. Take care.
