What are some ideas for a visual presentation of Hell in Dantes Inferno?
For english I am reading Dantes Inferno, and we have to make a Hell project. We have to come up with the sins and punishments, and place the sins and punisments in the circles of hell. I am supposed to make a visual presentation that shows hell and the sins and punishments. It has to have color, and be creative. I just cant think of anything. Some other people from last year did a spiral that had charachters and drawings on them, and the spiral went from up with a small spiral all the way to the bottom, and the spyral increases. We are working with parteners so any ideas accepted. I just dont know where to start with, what type of stuff should I use to build HELL.

Thanks

Take a picture of your teacher’s classroom =p

Try looking up some images on a search engine. I can’t think of any good ideas, but these pictures will at least give you a basic idea. This is one my Western Civ teacher from freshman year used in his powerpoint:

Gee I read it Three or four times and thought the circles got smaller the further down they got until Dante and Ovid (a poet I personally think is way over rated) reached the smallest at the bottom, holding Satan – depicted as a beast – trapped in ice. The ice, Dante flying and trying to figure how at the bottom of Hell they come out at the top into purgatory would be interesting. All the visuals you need are in the poem. The illicit lovers, the Popes suffering eternal damnation, the gays running away form the torment, but never being able to escape. The flatters standing in s+it up to there noses. No book lends itself so easily to illustration as does the Divine Comedy. Build? I missed that, but pasteboard and styrofoam should do a lot for you. Don’t forget paper dolls.
