IMDB rating: 7.80 Plot: While traveling by train to visit his grandfather in Jamshedpur, Calcutta born, Bengali-speaking Ashoke Ganguli meets with fellow-traveler, Ghosh, who impresses upon him to travel, while Ashoke is deep into a book authored by Nicholai Gogol. The train meets with an accident, and after recuperating, Ashoke re-locates to America, settles down, returns home in 1977 to get married to aspiring singer, Ashima, and returns home to New York. Shortly thereafter they become parents of a boy, who they initially name Gogol, and a few years later both give birth to Sonia. The family then buy their own house in the suburbs and travel to India for the first time after their marriage. The second time they travel to India is when Gogol and Sonia are in their late teens, and after a memorable visit to Kolkata and then to the Taj Mahal, they return home. Gogol falls in love with Maxine Ratliff and moves in with her family, while Ashoke spends time traveling, and Sonia moves to California, leaving Ashima all her by herself. The Ganguli family will be destined to travel to India again soon – this time under very different circumstances – and after all have endured life-changing events. |

Who prefers to date a girl of their own race also?
I am not racist. I am south asian(Indian ancestry) born and raised in America and I have dated many white girls but now I just feel like I would rather date a fellow Indian-American like myself. My reasons? I feel like white girls do not understand what it is like to grow up with immigrant east indian parents in America. Nor do they understand the Indian family traditions and culture our parents taught us. Nor do they appreciate the same indian foods that we cherished as kids in America. And they just can not get the insider jokes that us indians have and there sometimes is no use explaining them to white girls cuz they just give you a blank stare.
Does anyone else agree with me? Ps. you do not have to be east indian to agree with me.
I feel like I can relate to the indian guy gokul from the movie namesake lol.
I mean sure white girls from my experience tend to be much more forward and less reserved than east indian girls but I also feel like these traits could come back and haunt you in a relationship. Their friendliness and social behavior could encourage them to cheat on you with a guy who is the player type.
I don’t prefer it, I’m just more physically attracted to caucasian girls myself. I’m a white male in society, so I’m probably already getting blammed for writing anything anyways, but I just find myself more attracted to a caucasian girl. There’s nothing wrong with who you’re attracted to.
You’re attracted to who you’re attracted to. It’s as simple as that. Race isn’t the factor, it’s the physical attractiveness. Whether I like a girl who’s the color of mayo or a guy who’s the color of charcoal it doesn’t matter. The fact to me is that you actually give anybody a chance. The friendliness and social behavior isn’t really inherited by race or genetics, it’s the way that people act towards you. A majority of people in here would agree that if Jessica Alba was in a bar wearing "form-fitting clothes," she would be getting encouraged to cheat no matter which way she turned.
However, if this same woman that we speak of wore a loose & long skirt paired with a hoodie with the hood over it, nobody would even talk to her!
Short version: You’re attracted to who you’re attracted to. End of story. You can’t help it, and it’s nothing racist unless you deny people just based off of their race, unless you find them unattractive.
